Countdowns

Some people love to countdown the days to an event, others would rather not.  Each has their reasons.  I usually enjoy a countdown - how many days till Christmas Break, 8th grade graduation, vacation, and now, until I leave for Kenya. 

Time is a tricky thing.  In 2 Peter 3 we are told that time is not the same to God as it is to us and that the day of the Lord will come upon us quickly.  Psalm 39 talks about God teaching us to number our days.  Ecclesiastes 3 speaks of the time and season for everything.  James 4 warns us to not boast about tomorrow.

Considering just these few verses on time, I think it is a valuable commodity, not to be wasted, best left in God's hands, and used to His glory.  Countdowns remind me of how important the time is I have now.  See each day for the blessing it is, to make use of the time I have been given, to cherish the moments, and most of all to remember that God's timing is not mine. 

It is the Lord who establishes my steps, no matter the plans I may make or what my calendar says, He is in control of my time.  Otherwise I am just trying to outrun the clock, to keep up, catch up, make up on time, forgetting that my plans may not be His.  (Proverbs 16:9)

God's Timing

The vision that God has given
And the things that He has planned,
May not happen right away
Or in ways that we understand

 

For often God's preparing us
For when that day arrives
When we will see the outworking
Of God's vision in our lives

Though it tarries, wait for it,
For it will surely come
God's timing never comes too late,
He'll accomplish what He's begun

God is never slow to act;
He will surely bring it to pass
We need not be anxious and despair,
But have peace within our hearts

For when it comes, we'll be released
Into what the Lord's prepared,
So we will fulfil all that He's planned
As we are being gently led.
